The Power of Appearances, The Power of Clothes
This video has really struck a chord with everyone who has seen it, because it's true: as humans, we respond to others largely based on our visual input and our "prejudices." This experiment speaks volumes about the power of clothes, and how people respond to them! In my Dress for Success talks, I tell a story from John Molloy's book, Dress for Success , a research project where an actor was hired to stand in a busy subway station explaining that he'd left his wallet home and needed a dollar for the subway. He promised to return the money the next day. Wearing a blazer, slacks and open collar shirt, he raised $7.00 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The next day, in the same place and in the same clothes with the same word-for-word story, but wearing a tie, he raised $28.00!
